Texas trip
The last week of the year, we went to visit Jason's brother, Josh, in Killeen, TX. He is stationed at Ft. Hood and just bought a new house when he returned from Iraq last summer. We enjoyed his hospitality as we stayed with him along with Jason/Josh's parents.
Our first dinner there was at BJs, a restaurant we'd previously enjoyed in San Diego. They are famous for their deep-dish pizza, house-brewed root beer, and the pizookie, a pizza-sized melty cookie with ice cream on top.
Back at the ranch, we spent a lot of time relaxing. We played board games (of course), charades, trivia, and video games. We accompanied the boys while playing outside (in their jackets) or walking around the block. The time really went by quickly. The boys enjoyed Uncle Josh's jacuzzi tub:
Water softeners lead to large amounts of suds.
Other scenes around the house:
Winding down early at the house.
Nap-in-a-box. He really was asleep.
It's not unusual to hang out with military personnel around Killeen. (GI Joes gifts to the boys from their uncle.)
Never leave home without your favorite blanket!
I think that pile of decimation used to be Calvin's barbeque pork sandwich.
The boys liked climbing on and off the high stools a little too much. We were glad neither of them cracked their heads on the tile during the trip.
Saying goodbye to Uncle Josh at IHOP (he had to go into work earlier that morning). He ended up leaving an hour after us for New Years' in Illinois after finding reasonable airfare home, so, we got to see him again Saturday.
At the hotel we stayed at on our way home. We still have leftover rewards points from 5 years ago! It was a challenge to keep Calvin in the pool and out of the hot tub. He didn't understand why something that felt so relaxing could be bad for him.
Isaac loved, loved, loved the water. The pictures don't do it justice. We should probably get him in swim lessons before his courage and enthusiasm wane.
Hanging out by the hot tub again.
I am now officially within 15 days of being caught up on blogging!

Love seeing your latest posts, great photos, videos and journaling. I'm glad you posted a picture of Avaryn, I hadn't seen her for a while...she's really growing up fast. Neat photo of the jacuzzi and bubble bath and your boys...looks like fun. Nice to see Jason's brother too. I really appreciated the update on Isaac. AND great to see you too!
That BJs place sounds like a real find. I'm going to have to look them up for future vacation reference...surely there's no chance that we have one locally.
I'll assume that is Calvin sleeping in the box because he really can sleep anywhere! He has a gift.
The jacuzzi bubbles pictures are definitely my faves!

I looked it up; the closest BJs is in Greenwood, IN (southern suburb of Indianapolis). The next closest is somewhere in Oklahoma.
thanks, Wendy - really enjoyed all these posts. Good pics and vids, and I especially liked a description of Isaac and his progress - it is a good summary of the boy and will also be nice to read later, Lord willing. Keep up the noble work you are doing !!
YUM! The pizookie sounds good. I enjoyed meeting Josh. Glad he has returned to the US safely. Josh Brady gets home from Iraq this week.
Looks like you had a great trip. How did the boys do traveling? The bubbe bath looked fun. Isaac is much braver than Shea. He loves to "swim" in the bath but clings for dear life in the pool. Thanks for catching me up on you guys! I enjoyed all 3 posts & congrats on being almost caught up- you've achieved more than most of us here now!
Grandpa told me to be sure and look at Wendy's blog on Texas, but I see he didn't comment on this spot. Well, I know he loved the photos though, and so do I. What a fun trip. Nice to see Josh too. Extra cute picture of you and Calvin, Wendy.
Yes, I want to go to BJs too. Pizza and cookies. Great idea! Texas looked like it was totally worth the trip for you guys. I'm glad Uncle Josh is safe in the US. Will he have to go back to Iraq anytime soon?
